impact. Our approach to community engagement is rooted in direct interactions with local
communities, enabling us to understand grassroots challenges and co-create sustainable
solutions that uplift disadvantaged and marginalized groups.
CSR Aligned with Community Needs
Through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, we actively address
social, economic, and environmental concerns by aligning our programs with the
aspirations and priorities of the communities we serve. This ensures our initiatives are
relevant, impactful, and inclusive, contributing to holistic community development.
Shared Value and Active Participation
At the core of GAIL’s social responsibility philosophy is the creation of shared value,
where business growth and community prosperity go hand in hand. We foster active
community participation through regular interactions, needs assessments, and surveys,
ensuring that community voices shape our interventions. This collaborative approach
enhances the effectiveness, transparency, and sustainability of our CSR initiatives,
driving positive socio-economic outcomes for all stakeholders.

Social Commitment
As part of our social commitment, in FY 2022-23, GAIL incurred a CSR expenditure of 2.18%
against the mandated 2% towards achieving its CSR objectives through the implementation
of meaningful and sustainable CSR programmes. CSR initiatives of GAIL have benefitted
people in various geographies of the nation in FY 2022-23.
The beneficiaries of GAIL’s CSR projects are from vulnerable/marginalized and
disadvantaged segments, within 100 km of GAIL’s installations/pipelines and offices. The
majority of these include socially and economically disadvantaged groups. In FY 2022-23,
no concerns were received from these beneficiaries.
CSR Policy
Our initiatives are guided by a comprehensive CSR policy, to address critical welfare and
development needs in areas where we operate, with a special emphasis on vulnerable and
marginalized communities. GAIL’s CSR programs are monitored and governed by our Board of
Directors, acting on the recommendations of the CSR Committee in compliance with
Companies Act, 2013 & DPE guidelines as amended from time-to-time (i) Guidelines on
Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan) (Guidelines on CSR expenditure by
CPSEs.) This ensures our initiatives remain relevant, transparent, and impactful.
GAIL’s CSR programs are monitored and governed by our Board of Directors, acting on the
recommendations of the CSR Committee in compliance with the Companies Act 2013, CSR
Rules 2014, and subsequent amendments issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
In line with NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Districts Programme, GAIL strategically
prioritizes its CSR investments to uplift underdeveloped regions, fostering social and
economic development.
Communities can report grievances through CPGRAMS portal also. GAIL’s diverse CSR
programs are designed to address critical areas of social and environmental concern,
with each initiative mapped to specific UN SDGs to enhance transparency and global
alignment.

GAIL Hriday
GAIL’s “Hriday” initiative is an umbrella programme for various communities. Our team
aims to empower people from different communities and positively impact society. All
Hriday initiatives adhere to the activities defined in Schedule VII of the Companies
Act, 2013.

Need Analysis and Impact Assessment
We conduct surveys and collect feedback to determine the impact of our programmes, and we
then measure the social impact of our efforts depending on the feedback we receive. We
also conduct third-party evaluations of our critical programmes to ensure their
long-term viability.

- Requests received from people representatives for their respective constituencies
Impact Assessment
Impact assessment of eligible CSR projects of FY 2019-20 and FY 2020-21 has been carried
out by independent agencies in FY 2022-23 in accordance with sub-rule (3) of rule 8 of
the Companies (Corporate Social Responsibility Policy) Rules 2014 through third party.

Public Grievance Redressal
At GAIL, we believe that Community Grievance Redressal acts as a mechanism for
strengthening social ties by being more transparent and accountable. CSR projects being
implemented by GAIL, have designated nodal officers, who are in constant touch with
implementing agencies and respective communities. Any inputs / suggestions / grievances
received from communities to nodal officers are duly addressed. Communities can report
grievances through CPGRAMS portal also.

GAIL has engaged with third party for carrying out an independent assurance of their Sustainability Report (“Report”) for the reporting period from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024. The assurance has been conducted in accordance with the requirements of Assurance Standard AA1000AS-v3, AccountAbility UK, BRSR, GRI, IPIECA, CDP, TCFD, SASB.
The facilities covered for this assurance are GAIL Corporate Office, GAIL Jubilee Tower and Info Hub, GTI Noida, Cherlapally, Pata, Vijaipur, Vaghodia Plant Jhabua Compressor Station, Regional Office-Navi Mumbai, and Kochi.
