GAIL remains committed towards taking up CSR projects that benefit the communities in & around its work centres and results over a period, in enhancing the quality of life & economic well‐being of the local populace. Company adopts a multi-stakeholder approach, collaborating with communities, government and nongovernment organisations, academic institutions and others, to identify emerging issues, develop projects and effectively respond to challenges. GAIL endeavours to follow best practices in identifying, implementing, sustaining and monitoring its CSR interventions to maximize sustainability, scalability and transparency. GAIL believes that it is in responding to the needs of the people, benefitting communities and protecting the environment which will ultimately lead to the goal of sustainable progress of the larger community.
While GAIL has undertaken CSR projects and programmes on various subjects and areas as identified in Schedule VII of the statute, based on our experience of working with the communities surrounding our business areas, your company has chosen seven fields as the focus areas for intervention from among those prescribed in Schedule VII. These seven focus areas remain at the heart of all our CSR interventions and have been appropriately termed GAIL Hriday.
GAIL’s CSR efforts focuses on Rural Development(GAIL Unnati), Environment(GAIL Harit), Health(GAIL Arogya), Education(GAIL Ujjawal), Women Empowerment(GAIL Sashakt), Skill Development(GAIL Kaushal), and Care for the Elderly and Differently-abled(GAIL Saksham), reinforcing the Company’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable community development.
GAIL Ujjwal, aids in providing quality education, especially to underprivileged students in rural areas and urban slums, by providing requisite infrastructure support, installation of smart classes, setting up of STEM Resource centres, Atal Tinkering Labs and provision of innovative school bags with educational desks. These initiatives are ably coupled with provision of safe drinking water facilities and installation of sanitary napkin vending machines with incinerators, sanitary napkin distribution for adolescent girls in government schools.
GAIL’s Flagship project GAIL Utkarsh, provides free specialized residential coaching for Engineering/Medical entrance examinations to underprivileged students at 3 centres- Kanpur, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and Haldwani (Uttarakhand). This project was started in 2009 and till date, around 2,228 students have benefitted from the program. In 2021, an all girl’s centre was started in Varanasi to empower female students from underprivileged backgrounds.
In the 2024–25 session, 230 underprivileged students were enrolled under this project. Out of total 180 students enrolled for engineering examination under the project, 168 students qualified JEE MAINS (93.33% batch result) and all the 50 girl students enrolled for Medical entrance examination coaching at Varanasi Centre qualified NEET (100% batch result). Further, 225 students are currently enrolled for 2025–26 session, for preparation of Engineering/Medical entrance examinations across all 03 centres. Final results are awaited for JEE MAINS 2026.
Under GAIL Arogya, Medical Healthcare facilities and Nutrition support are extended to underprivileged population through Mobile Medical Units, medical and eye camps, Thalassemia screening, TB screening with nutrition kit distribution to TB patients, cataract surgeries, glaucoma testing, cancer treatment, congenital heart disease surgeries for children, growth hormone therapy treatment for children, operation of STI clinics, distribution of nutrition kits for malnourished women & children, procurement of medical equipment for Government Hospitals, installation of open gyms, promoting menstrual hygiene, provision of clean drinking water and sanitation facilities.
In FY 2025-26, 61 Mobile Medical Units (MMUs) staffed with MCI-registered MBBS doctors, pharmacists and auxiliary nurses have provided basic healthcare services to approximately 11 lakh underprivileged beneficiaries in 33 districts across 13 states.
The various health initiatives undertaken by GAIL in FY 2025-26 have helped bridge gaps in existing health infrastructure and have impacted around 13 lakhs lives
GAIL Institute of Skills at Guna (Madhya Pradesh) and Nagaram (Andhra Pradesh) train beneficiaries in hydrocarbon sector trades like CNC Operator, Industrial welder, Industrial electrician, Draughtsman Mechanical and other skill trades like healthcare, textile, etc. In FY 2025-26, GAIL has empowered around 1200 youth through skill development training programs. As part of its collaborative initiatives, GAIL had supported six Skill Development Institutes (SDIs) over the years, viz. SDI- Raebareli, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Vishakhapatnam, Ahmedabad and Guwahati. These SDIs have been set up through collaborative efforts of Oil PSEs under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas and are in line with “Skill India Mission” of Government of India. GAIL is the nodal PSU for Skill Development Institute at Raibareli (Uttar Pradesh) and has provided skill development training in trades like Pipefitter, Industrial welder, Industrial electrician, Customer Care Executive, etc. to 523 beneficiaries enrolled in FY 2025-26.
GAIL undertakes rural development programmes with the focus of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas. GAIL Unnati focuses on making basic amenities accessible to the rural populace as well. In FY 2025-26, under this focus area, GAIL has installed handpumps, streetlights, RO water plants and Open gyms in rural areas across the country. GAIL has also supported developmental works across multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar.
Under GAIL Saksham, CSR initiatives focused on enhancing the quality of life for the elderly and persons with disabilities are undertaken. In FY 2024-25, assistive aids, non-formal education, speech therapy, infrastructural and operational support were provided to around 2600 persons with disabilities under GAIL Saksham.
GAIL also facilitated the provision of artificial limbs to 400 divyangjans in Nashik district of Maharashtra and supported the construction of rooms at an old age home in Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh. These initiatives have helped empower persons with disabilities, thereby gaining confidence and sense of dignity, greater independence, as well as more access to livelihood opportunities.
GAIL Sashakt aims to undertake CSR initiatives that empower women of the nation socially, functionally and economically. With this intent, GAIL in FY 2025-26 has undertaken several women centric initiatives including skilling cum empowerment programs for around 630 women in Ghaziabad, Auraiya, (UP), , Assam, Salem (Tamil Nadu) and Guna (MP).
GAIL has facilitated the installation of sanitary napkin vending machines and incinerators in government schools and colleges, along with promotion of menstrual hygiene through awareness sessions, free sanitary napkin distribution and organisation of health camps, benefiting over 9000 girls in FY 2024-25.
GAIL has also provided support towards IEC activities of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme. Through this initiative, free LPG connections have been offered to underprivileged families, helping reduce health risks associated with indoor air pollution from traditional cooking methods and empowering women in Indian households by making cooking safer and more convenient.
GAIL Harit encompasses the environment centric CSR initiatives of GAIL. In a move to make the Ganga pollution free, GAIL has supported towards conversion of boats running on petrol/ diesel, to environment-friendly Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) boats in association with Varanasi Nagar Nigam. In FY 2025-26, GAIL has strengthened its environmental commitments by supporting the production of bio-degradable Coir Fibre Based Root Trainer (CRT) planting stock of medicinal plants for health security, eco-restoration, climate change mitigation and tribal livelihood enhancement in Kerala. GAIL has also supported development of climate resilient villages through sustainable agriculture, water conservation & livestock management in Nandurbar, Maharashtra. Further, GAIL has also moved towards renewable energy in its CSR projects, with installation of solar streetlights, solar high mast lights, solar hand pumps, solar RO water plants, solar Power System, etc. wherever feasible in case of infrastructure related projects.
