Expanding in diversified, sustainable energy portfolio

GAIL has a total installed capacity of 154 MW of Renewable Energy, out of which ~118 MW is from wind energy and ~36 MW is from solar energy. Aligned with its long-term sustainability vision, GAIL has set a target of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2035 for Scope-1 and Scope-2 emissions and by 2040 for Scope-3 emissions. To support this goal, the Company plans to scale up its renewable energy capacity to around 3.6 GW by 2035 through development of renewable power projects and strategic clean energy initiatives.

GAIL is set to expand its renewable energy portfolio to 1 GW by 2028–29 through the commissioning of multiple projects currently in the pipeline, reaffirming its dedication to sustainable growth and advancing India’s clean energy transition.

GAIL (India) Limited is actively strengthening its renewable energy portfolio as part of its commitment to reduce carbon emissions and support India’s transition to a cleaner energy future.

GAIL’s wind energy projects are located across Gujarat, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, while its solar power installations are spread across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and standalone solar system across various sites of GAIL.

The power generated from these projects is partly utilized for internal consumption (~ 50 MW), enabling substitution of grid power, reduction in carbon footprint, and optimization of power costs. Renewable energy continues to remain a central focus area for the Company as it intensifies efforts to expand clean energy capacity and strengthen in-house capabilities.

GAIL has also commissioned its first Green Hydrogen plant at Vijaipur, with a capacity of 4.3 tonnes per day using a 10 MW PEM electrolyzer, producing hydrogen of 99.99% purity through electrolysis powered by renewable energy. These initiatives underline GAIL’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions and contributing to a greener, low-carbon future.

GAIL is further setting up 178.2 MW Wind Project in Maharashtra, 600 MW Solar Project with 550 MWh BESS in Uttar Pradesh,100 MW Solar Project with 22 MWh BESS in Maharashtra, floating solar projects of 17.5 MW at Pata, Uttar Pradesh,12.5 MW Rooftop Solarisation project across various sites of GAIL. With the commissioning of these projects, GAIL’s renewable energy portfolio will reach 1 GW, underscoring its commitment to sustainable growth and India’s clean energy transition.
