Fire at GAIL's CNG Station Premises in Karkhiyaon, Varanasi Brought Under Control

New Delhi/Varanasi, June 20, 2026: A fire broke out at approximately 9:15 PM on Friday, 19 June 2026 in the MDPE pipe storage yard located adjacent to GAIL's CNG Station at Karkhiyaon, Varanasi. Preliminary information suggests that during a storm, an external spark, possibly caused by cyclonic gusts in the area, ignited the fire in the yard containing MDPE pipe stock.

Immediately upon detection of the incident, the affected area was cordoned off and firefighting operations were initiated without delay. Fire Brigade teams promptly reached the site along with senior officials of GAIL and the state administration.

Coordinated efforts were undertaken to contain the fire and ensure the safety of personnel and nearby facilities.

As a precautionary measure, gas supply to the station was shut off to ensure complete safety. The residual gas present in the CNG station pipeline was safely managed in accordance with established safety protocols.

The fire was confined to the MDPE pipe storage yard, and some of the stored MDPE pipes were affected. There has been no damage to the CNG station facilities. Importantly, no injury, casualty, or loss of human life has been reported.

The fire was swiftly brought under control through prompt and coordinated firefighting efforts. GAIL continues to closely monitor the site. A detailed assessment is being undertaken to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
