New Delhi, 01 February 2007 : Dr U.D. Choubey assumed charge today as Chairman and Managing Director of GAIL. Before taking over as Chairman and Managing Director of the Company, he was holding the position of Director (Marketing), GAIL since May 2004.
Dr. Choubey joined GAIL in 1986 and is well known in the Natural Gas business. A Doctorate in Hydrocarbon from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, Dr. Choubey is Post Graduate in Chemistry from Patna University, and MBA from Indian Institute of Business Management, Patna and an LLB from University of Delhi. Dr. Choubey joined GAIL in its formative period and has been associated with the Marketing Department since then. He was the first Director (Marketing) of GAIL(India) Limited and was responsible for marketing GAIL’s complete range of products and services in the field of natural gas, including R-LNG, LPG, Propane and other liquid hydrocarbons, Petrochemicals (HDPE and LLDPE) and Bandwidth Leasing in Telecom sector.
Dr Choubey has been recognized for his work in natural gas marketing in India and has also authored the book, entitled ‘Text Book on Natural Gas’. He is widely travelled and has represented the country and presented papers at a number of national and international conferences. Throughout his professional career, Dr Choubey has played a leading role in the development of gas-related policies and is held in high regard by various stakeholders in the natural gas business.
