GAIL wins Energy Excellence Awards
New Delhi , October 12, 2007: GAIL (India) Limited has won Energy Excellence Awards for the year 2007. It has received the Infraline Jury Award for the Development of Natural Gas Sector in India. Dr. U D Choubey, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL received the award from Shri Sushil Kumar Shinde, Hon'ble Union Minister of Power in the presence of several well-known personalities from across the energy sector in New Delhi today. GAIL also received the Methane Pioneer Award in Natural Gas sector.
The eminent jury selecting the winners of these awards consisted of Shri B K Chaturvedi, Member, Planning Commission and former Cabinet Secretary, Prof. Bakul Dholakia, former Director, IIM Ahmedabad, Shri Deepak Parekh, Chairman, HDFC and IDFC, Shri R V Shahi, former Secretary (Power), Shri Suresh Mathur, former CEO and MD, Petronet LNG Limited, Shri T L Shankar, Advisor - Energy, Administrative Staff College and Shri Vineet Nayyar, VC and MD, Mahindra Infotech.
Infraline Energy Excellence Awards have been initiated in recognition of excellence in promoting capital efficiencies, executing large size projects, leadership, innovation, skill development, regulation and contribution to the society in oil and gas, power, coal and renewable energy sectors. These awards are given both at corporate and individual levels.
GAIL (India) Limited is India's largest natural gas company having a market share of 78% in natural gas transmission and 70% in natural gas marketing. Apart from natural gas transmission, distribution and processing, the Company has diversified business interests in LPG transmission, petrochemicals, city gas projects and exploration and production activities. GAIL owns and operates around 6700 km of natural gas pipeline transmission network with a capacity of 148 MMSCMD and is laying five new natural gas pipelines measuring 5000 km. involving a capex of nearly Rs. 20,000 crore which shall enhance the transmission capacity to around 300 MMSCMD in 2011.
