GAIL contributes Rs. 15 lakh for Save Tiger Project
Bangalore, January 14, 2008: Dr. U D Choubey, Chairman and Managing Director GAIL today handed over a Field Research Vehicle to Centre for Wild Life Studies at Bangalore. GAIL (India) Limited, in collaboration with Centre for Wild Life Studies, Bangalore has undertaken a wild life conservation project titled Save Tiger Project at Mysore under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

As part of the project, GAIL has made a financial contribution of Rs. 15 lakh to Wild Life Conservation Society to establish a Field Research Centre in Malenad Mysore Tiger Conservation Landscape to facilitate and promote ecological conservation, monitoring, research and training through education and awareness. The field research centre will be set up in the area near Bhadra Tiger Reserve situated on Jagara-Melina Hulvatti Road at a distance of about 10 Km from Muthodi range Forest Office.
Dr. Choubey, CMD, GAIL also flagged off a mobility vehicle for differently able students of Amara Jyothi Handicap Welfare Association, Kanakapura. During the occasion the Chairman unveiled a plaque for two class rooms and handed over training aids- a laptop with LCD for the organization along with Dr. A K Kundra, former Secretary Government of India and Independent Director on the Board of GAIL, Shri B C Tripathi, Director (Marketing) GAIL, Shri Arvind Jadhav, Chief Vigilance Officer, GAIL and other senior officials of the company.
During the last two years, GAIL has spent over Rs. 40 lakh in CSR activities in and around Bangalore. During year 2007-08, GAIL has undertaken various activities in Bangalore including, among others, aid to Amara Jyothi Handicap Welfare Association, Kanakapura, Sree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind, Bangalore, National Association for the Blind, Bangalore, and Sadhana, Bangalore, an NGO for welfare of SC/ST/ OBC rural women.
Earlier, GAIL had provided aid for educational infrastructural development activities at Hasserraghatta, Magdi and Jambusavari Dinne Panchayats of Bangalore Rural District. Other programmes undertaken by GAIL were: donation of a food distribution vehicle under Akshya Patra Foundation Scheme, sponsoring of Artificial Limbs / wheel chairs and other infrastructure facilities including computer lab for the benefit of the physically challenged students, procurement of furniture, cutleries, sports kits and recreational items for Government run hostels for Schedule Caste and Scheduled Tribes at Bangalore, grants to SDS Tuberculosis & Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases for setting up Air pollution Related Diseases Diagnostic Centre (APRDC) at Bangalore.
At GAIL, Corporate Social Responsibility stands for continuing commitment for operating the core business in socially responsible way, complemented by investment in communities to produce an overall positive impact on society. The Company as a policy has allocated 1% of its net profit after tax (PAT) of the previous financial year for CSR activities. This overall budget is then distributed amongst seven specific thrust areas as community development, drinking water, sanitation, educational aid, environment protection, healthcare / medical, infrastructure, literacy enhancement/ empowerment
