TATA, NTPC, IPCL get GAIL Gas Conservation Award
New Delhi, December 14, 2005. Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India presented the National Gas Conservation awards instituted by GAIL (India) Limited, here today to eleven winners from the eight industrial sectors recognizing their energy saving measures. Appreciating the importance of the gas conservation initiatives of GAIL, the Hon’ble Minister desired that apart from celebrating every year on 14th December as National Gas Conservation Day, GAIL and insutrial sector should make gas conservation a continuous part of their ongoing process and activities. The 3rd National Gas Conservation Day programme today was attended by Shri Proshanto Banerjee, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL and other senior officials from the Ministry and the top management of GAIL.
GAIL has instituted awards for the best energy efficient industries across eight industrial sectors namely fertilizer, power, sponge iron, glass, petrochemicals, LPG Fractionators, Gas Compressor station and small scale sector. This year the awards were given to NTPC Gas Power Station, Faridabad; Videocon Narmada Glass, Bharuch; Hind Glass Industries, Ferozabad; Nagarjuna Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited, Kakinada; Vikram Ispat Limited, Raigad; H R Johnson, Mumbai; Tata Chemical & Fertilizers Limited, Babrala; Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited, Vadodara, GVK Industries Limited, Secunderabad and to LPG Plant and Gas Compressor Station of GAIL at Vijaipur.
This day assumes special significance because it stresses the need for conserving this precious non renewable fuel for the future generation. With the aim of promoting the conservation of natural gas, GAIL (India) Limited has taken the initiative of educating, providing training and technical expertise to customers. Natural gas is the fuel of 21st century because of its cleanliness and higher energy efficiency as compared to other fossil fuels. The need of the hour is to practice energy efficient technologies across the various industrial sectors as well as households to conserve this non-renewable fuel for future generations.
During the programme, distinguished external experts and senior officials of GAIL addressed the technical sessions which was well appreciated by the participants.
Apart from Corporate Office, New Delhi, various plants and units of GAIL all over India celebrated the Gas Conservation Day wherein all the major consumers also participated.
About the National Gas Conservation Programme: GAIL (India) Limited had launched the nation-wide National Gas Conservation Programme in 2003. The programme, aimed at promoting conservation of this precious natural resource, is a movement pioneered by GAIL. Through concerted efforts in terms of energy audits, technical meets, seminars, customer meets, expertise sharing the programme aims to spread awareness among all the end user industries like power, fertilizer, steel, sponge iron, transport, glass, ceramic and petrochemicals. A dedicated team of engineers constitutes the Energy Management Services Group. The members of this group, present at all the Zonal offices, visit industries that use Natural Gas, to provide guidance on ways of most efficient use and conservation of the fuel. The team helps users identify the possible ways of inefficient use of Natural Gas and suggest measures that should be adopted to bring down such losses to zero.
