GAIL places orders worth Rs.485 crore for Dahej-Uran and Vijaipur-Kota Pipeline projects
New Delhi, December 27, 2005 GAIL today placed orders for supply of pipes for the Dahej-Uran Pipeline (DUPL) project amounting to Rs.405 crore and orders worth Rs.80 crore for the Vijaipur-Kota pipeline (VKPL) project.
The supply of pipes shall commence by April, 2006 and the 500 kms pipeline is scheduled to be completed by February, 2007. GAIL has already placed orders for critical items like Valves, Joints, Elbows and Fittings and delivery of these items have commenced. The Maharashtra market, which is currently facing about 50% cut in gas supplies, shall benefit from the completion of the DUPL project. The inter-state gas pipeline would link the two important gas markets of Gujarat and Maharashtra. Currently, the gas market in Gujarat has access to 5 different gas supply sources namely, (a) the South Bassein fields; (b) Panna-Mukta Tapti Field; (c) Lakshmi fields; (d) Dahej RLNG and (d) Hazira RLNG. On the other hand, the Maharashtra market has access to gas supplies from only the Bombay High Fields, which is fast declining. Once the DUPL project is commissioned, the Gujarat and Maharashtra markets shall be interconnected, resulting in Maharashtra gaining access to multiple gas sources. This shall also lead to bringing much needed relief the power generators in Maharashtra.
For the Vijaipur-Kota pipeline project, the supply of pipes shall commence from April, 2006 and the pipeline shall be completed by December 2006. The pipeline shall supply natural gas/ RLNG to the energy starved state of Rajasthan and shall also help in feeding gas to the city of Kota in Rajasthan.
