GAIL – BPCL JV, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited incorporated

New Delhi, January 16, 2006 Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL), a Joint Venture of GAIL (India) Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited has been incorporated. The Joint Venture company will implement City Gas Projects for supply of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) to Domestic, Commercial and Industrial Consumers and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to automobile consumers in the city of Pune.
MNGL is planning to set up 29 CNG stations and plans to supply PNG to about 1000 Domestic consumers in the first three years, under the initial phase. It is expected that CNG supply to automobiles shall commence by September 2007.
With the incorporation of the MNGL, the supply of PNG and CNG shall be expedited in the city of Pune, which has been identified by Hon’ble Supreme Court as one of the most polluted cities having high vehicular pollution. The Natural Gas supply to Pune city shall be supplied by GAIL’s Panvel-Pune Pipelines, which is likely to be commissioned by June 2007. This pipeline will be connected through GAIL’s Dahej-Uran pipeline, which is scheduled to be commissioned by February 2007.
MNGL is the third Joint Venture of GAIL with BPCL for implementation of City Gas Projects. GAIL’s joint venture company Central U. P. Gas Limited (CUGL) is implementing gas projects in Kanpur and Bareily and Green Gas Limited (GGL) is implementing such projects in Lucknow and Agra. Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) is already supplying PNG and CNG in NCT of Delhi and Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) in Mumbai.
GAIL has six Joint Ventures, namely, Mahanagar Gas Limited, Indraprastha Gas Limited, Bhagyanagar Gas Limited, Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited, Central UP Gas Limited and Green Gas Limited for implementation of City Gas Projects in various parts of the country.
