GAIL gets Golden Icon award for e-governance

Kochi, February 2, 2006 GAIL (India) Limited received the Golden Icon Award for exemplary initiatives in e-governance. Mr R K Goel, Director (Finance), GAIL received the award during the 9th National e-Governance Conference, held in Kochi under the joint auspices of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievance, Department of Information Technology, Government of India, and the Department of Information Technology, Government of Kerala. The event provides a forum for discussion of various e-Governance related issues by experts from administration, industry and academia, leading to the formulation of regional and national e-Governance strategies.
GAIL has taken a series of initiatives for e-governance such as Bill watch system, File watch system, e-payments, e-receivables etc. which are unique. As a result GAIL achieved 100 percent e-payments by May 2005. A few major firsts have been achieved during implementation of SAP in the company namely:
- Employee Self Service (ESS) using intranet
- Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Module
- Work Clearance Management (WCM) – is a work permit system in plant maintenance.
GAIL is the country’s premier gas transmission and marketing company with significant interest in Gas Processing (LPG, Propane and other Liquid Hydrocarbons), petrochemicals (HDPE, LLDPE), LPG Pipeline Transmission and Telecom (bandwidth leasing). In order to gear up for the fast changing business environment GAIL has taken a series of initiatives such as Global Benchmarking, ERP, Quality Management to bring 6 sigma qualities to its products, as well as projects to internally transform and increase customer focus through e-payments, e-banking, e-Receivables etc. Upgradation of skills of GAIL’s work force of about 3,400 employees has been taken.
