Press Release Ambush at Tripura

New Delhi, February 14, 2006: In an unfortunate event of ambush by the terrorists at Bhaskar Para, Taliamura in Tripura today morning, three persons including a junior surveyor and two labourers employed by M/s Asian Oil Field Services Ltd, who were working on an onland block in the state were killed. The block AA-ONN-2002/1during NELP-IV was awarded to the GAIL-Jubiliant Oil and Gas Pvt. Ltd. (JOGPL) consortium with participating interest of 80% and 20% respectively with JOGPL as the Operator

As per the Minimum Work Programme, 200 LKM 2D seismic acquisition work was to be carried out during the period November 2005 to April 2006. M/s Geophysical Institute of Israel (GII) was awarded the job. M/s Asian Oil Field Services Ltd., who are the sub-contractors to M/s GII were carrying out the field job with the help of two platoons of Tripura State Rifles (TSR), when the incident took place. Two workers were killed on the spot and the third person died on the way to the hospital.

GAIL has taken up the matter of security of the personnel working at the site with the state government.
