GAIL welcomes physically challenged employees

May 3, 2005, New Delhi GAIL (India) Limited has recently recruited eight physically challenged individuals in its non-executive cadre. The new employees have been selected based on their performance in a written test, skill test and interview out of over 8000 applicants.

An orientation programme is currently underway for these employees to familiarize them with the company and its activities. As a part of this programme, these employees had a personal interaction with the CMD and other Directors of the company. Addressing the new recruits, GAIL Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Proshanto Banerjee complimented them on emerging successfully through a rigorous selection process and said, “GAIL has been rated as one of the best employers in India and there are plenty of avenues for you to contribute and grow with the organization.” He also assured the new recruits of a healthy work environment and regular updation of skills and knowledge through training.

In the past also, GAIL has taken many initiatives to empower the physically challenged individuals and many of them are making important contributions in the functions of Finance, Programming, Information Technology and Business Development.

With an effective corporate social responsibility policy in place, GAIL realizes the value of helping others and that its responsibility extends towards those who need a helping hand to make the journey of life more meaningful. GAIL, under its CSR policy, has taken a number of programmes for the physically challenged persons. These include providing tricycles to physically challenged persons in Agra and Abu Road, providing artificial limbs in Jaipur, donation of vehicle for spastic children in Noida, contribution to Adult Training Programme in association with Action for Disability Development and Inclusion (AADI) for mentally challenged people in Delhi, contribution to Blind Welfare Society for setting up computer centre for facilitating computer education of the visually impaired girls in Delhi, contribution to Rajiv Gandhi Foundation for motorized vehicles for physically challenged persons in Delhi, and construction of school building for blind children in Jamnagar (Gujarat).
