Employment of Physically Challenged Persons - GAIL Appeals to Mr. Javed Abidi
May 4, 2005, New Delhi GAIL (India) Limited has appealed to Mr. Javed Abidi, Executive Director, National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People to withdraw his decision to go on a fast unto death.
GAIL has also clarified that eight physically challenged individuals have already been recruited in accordance with the stipulations under Persons with Disabilities Act (PWD Act) and in compliance with the directions of the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi. The four concerned persons did not participate in the recruitment process. While we appreciate the concern of NCPEDP for these individuals, considering them for employment over the other eligible persons would have amounted to contempt of court. Moreover, this would also have been unfair to the over 8000 physically challenged individuals who participated in the recruitment process who are also dear to NCPEDP which stands for the overall interest of such physically challenged persons.
GAIL, as a responsible corporate would continue to do its best to provide fair and equal opportunities to the physically challenged persons while complying with the regulations/ guidelines in force from time to time on the subject.
