[New Delhi, 13th march, 2006]
Supply of LNG to restart Dabhol by December, 2006
With regard to the story filed by Reuters, Mumbai on March 7, 2006, we would like to provide the following clarifications
There has been no interaction between the senior management of the Company and Reuters, Mumbai and the story has several inaccuracies
For instance no responsible GAIL official or for that matter anybody connected with the trade would have stated that the first LNG cargo of 500 thousand tonnes would land at Hazira by June, 2006. It is patently absurd
It is further clarified that at no stage has GAIL claimed to have achieved a tie-up with Rasgas for supply of LNG for the Dabhol Project from Qatar
In fact, discussions led by Secretary (Petroleum & Natural Gas) and attended by JS (MoP&NG), Director (BD), GAIL and CEO PLL were held in Qatar for early supply of LNG to India by Rasgas
It can be certainly concluded from the statement attributed by Agencies on March 10, 2006 to Secretary (Petroleum & Natural Gas), who is also the Ex-Officio Chairman of Petronet LNG Limited that Qatar LNG will be available by December end for the Dabhol Project. We welcome this development.
