GAIL clinches NPMP award for DVPL
GAIL (India) Limited has received the coveted NPMP award in recognition of excellence in Enterprise Category for Dahej-Vijaipur Pipeline Project. Shri Proshanto Banerjee, Chairman and Managing Director, GAIL received this award from Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in a presentation ceremony held today in New Delhi. GAIL has completed the Dahej- Vijaipur Pipeline Project in a record period of 27 months. The Project was completed six months ahead of schedule, resulting into a cost saving of over Rs. 600 crore. This is the largest diameter cross country onshore pipeline for transportation of high pressure gas so far executed in India. The total approved cost of the project was Rs. 2936 crore including foreign exchange of Rs. 1163 crore. The pipeline passes through Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
In the first phase of the DVPL Project, the 610 KM trunk pipeline of 42” was completed. This trunk pipeline has a throughput capacity of 23 MMSCMD which can be upgraded to 45 MMSCMD with the installation of intermediate compressor stations at Jhabua and Vijaipur. The project strategy was focused on three critical aspects such as speed, cost and quality. GAIL’s execution team was assisted by the Engineers India Limited for Design, Construction and Procurement Management, M/s Worley Australia for back up consultancy for Project Monitoring and M/s Bureau Veritas India for the Quality Surveillance. The pipe laying contract was awarded to M/s Punj Lloyd.
Excellence in Project Management has become a part of GAIL’s work culture, be it of big projects like DVPL or small projects like the one which GAIL recently completed in Tamil Nadu, the 48 KM long pipeline connecting the Narimanam zone and the Kuthalam zone was completed and formally dedicated to the Nation by the Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas in July 2005. This Rs. 47 crore pipeline was also completed within ten months of the project approval.
