Customer’s Meet held at Bhubaneswar
GAIL, HZO organized Customer’s meet at Bhubaneswar on 24.1.2006. The meeting was well attended by over 25 potential Customers including potential anchor Customers like POSCO, Essar Steels, Bhushan Steels, Jindal Steels, Mid East Integrated Steels, Vedanta Alumina Ltd, Orissa Sponge Iron, Uttam Galva ,Tata Chemicals, Tata Steels, Maithan Ispat, Scan Steels, L&T & Deepak Fertilisers. Sh. R C Arora, ZDGM, GAIL, HZO and Sh. Vinay Kumar, DGM(P&BD) GAIL, New Delhi along with other senior officials from GAIL were present on the occasion.
Shri A. Balasubramanian, Sr. Manager (Marketing) in his welcome address explained that the Customer’s meet will have the theme “GAIL’s focus in Orissa” and would deliberate on opportunities in Orissa and take stock of the various energy sources likely to be made available in the state of Orissa including Surface Coal Gasification Project and the preparedness for implementation of projects synchronizing with the availability of energy sources.
Shri R.C. Arora, Zonal DGM, in his key note address touched upon various points such as strategic role being played by GAIL as an integrated gas company in India, GAIL’s keenness in participating in energy projects in Orissa including setting up of a coal gasification plant, facilities for receiving gas from Myanmar at one of the ports in Orissa and transporting it through a pipeline linked to the inter-state gas grid and a comprehensive Co-operation Agreement for Energy, Environment and e Governance with the State Government likely to be sign in near future.
A presentation was made by Shri A. Balasubramanian, Sr. Manager (Marketing) on “GAIL’s plan for supply of Energy Sources in Orissa” covering the profile of GAIL, Opportunities in Orissa, GAIL’s focus including Myanmar Gas to Orissa, gas pipelines and Cooperation Agreement with Govt of Orissa.
Shri Vinay Kumar DGM(P&BD), gave a presentation on Coal Gasification Project based on Shell technology covering the project profile ,applications & advantages of synthesis gas
The business round table that followed, evoked tremendous response from the potential consumers and various issues such as availability, affordability and acceptability of natural gas and synthesis gas including price , period of contract , assurance of supply on long term basis, time frame, feasibility of transporting synthesis gas to far-off places etc. were deliberated
The meeting was concluded on a very positive note with signing of Heads of Agreements with two anchor consumer namely Essar Steels(Paradeep) and Uttam Galva ( Kalinga Nagar) for a total quantity of 8 MMSCMD of natural gas .The meeting also resulted in POSCO showing keenness to conclude HOA based on GAIL’s detailed plan
