GAIL donates a bus to ‘Muskaan’ – an NGO for children with special needs.

Shri Santosh Kumar, Director (Projects), GAIL, flagged off a special 32-seater bus for Muskaan, an NGO for children with intellectual disabilities and special needs. The bus was flagged off at the Corporate office, held in a function on 28th March, 2008. Senior officials from GAIL and representatives from Muskaan were also present during the flagging off ceremony
Speaking on the occasion, Shri S K Bajpai exhorted not only the whole community to come forward with such noble cause but also the self, the conscience within. He added, “The strong belief in the immense power of camaraderie and comradeship is the most effective tool of human growth and development. It’s a great moment for me to be a part of such a commendable initiative by Muskaan to mould, empower and enrich the lives of differently –abled children. GAIL always stands at the forefront to do its bit in helping these organizations change the societal attitude for the betterment of these children. I hope we all continue to do just that. This fulfills life with a greater purpose as life by itself has no meaning. Creation of purpose like this should ideally be the motto of human life. I wish everybody success in the effort”, he added.

Sharing her soul-awakening experiences of being with the differently- abled children of Muskaan, Dr Shanti Auluck, Head of Muskaan and a former Reader in Psychology from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi said, “ Muskaan as a caring home for the intellectually challenged children in Delhi came into being with the help of parents and professionals in the year 1982. The sole intention of establishing the NGO was to genuinely empower the innocent souls on earth who carry mammoth potential to dispel the general negative notion in the society that they cannot do anything.” She further added, “But all this can be put to rest the moment the potent combination of parental support, societal attitude and personal initiative come into play When you set your heart to something, even the higher forces conspire to make your goals come true. The GAIL bus for the children is indeed a very safe and comfortable mode of transportation in a metro like Delhi. I really congratulate and thank GAIL and its genuine endeavour in helping change the lives of these Taare Zameen Par.”
