GAIL launches e-Shiksha Project
GAIL has launched a major education initiative entitled ‘e-Shiksha’ for the villages surrounding its major plants at Pata in U.P. and Vijaipur in M.P. Shri B.C. Tripathi, Director (Marketing), GAIL flagged off two Mobile Computer Aided Learning Centers in a function held on January 25, 2008 at the Noida Office.
The mobile vans cost a whopping Rs 63 lakhs each, of which the vans cost Rs 50 lakhs and come fully equipped with 18 laptops, a Generator and AC system. Contribution towards recurring cost for one year for running the education programme is Rs.6.5 lakh for each bus.
The e- Shiksha programme is part of the CSR activities and is aimed at imparting basic computer knowledge in local language to school students and to school dropouts in rural areas in the vicinity of GAIL’s plants at Pata and Vijaipur. As part of the e-Shiksha programme, computer classes will be conducted on “Mobile Computer Aided Learning Center and each Center will have a qualified computer instructor to teach the children. The bus specially designed and fabricated for the purpose can accommodate 30 learners at any given time. The bus will move from one school to another in the villages wherein each class will run for two hours and thus 3-4 batches can be trained in a day
The project is being implemented in association with NGO Aurobindo Chaudhari Memorial Great Indian Dream Foundation (GIDF).
