Propane : Applications
GAIL Propane is valued in Industry because of its high energy heat, homogeneous content, cleanliness and easy availability.
- Process Heating:Homogeneous composition leads to no residue on combustion and accurate temperature control. Air Fuel ratio need not be changed with every batch. Excellent application in manufacture of Textiles, Glass, Picture Tubes, Automobile, Bearings etc.
- Metal Processing: Clean Burning. No residue of sulphur, lead & carbon leads to minimum scaling losses. Melting operations homogeneous due to constant temperature control. Excellent applications in forging, heat treatment of low-carbon steels, bright annealing of copper, wire drawing, casting, melting industry.
- Paintings Units: No unburned fuel and residues. Ability to have constant temperature control results in effective and uniform heating with minimum fuel. Major Car manufacturers use GAIL Propane for Paint shops. Also finds applications in food processing, ink printing etc.
- Kilns & Furnaces: Accurate Temperature Control leads to enhanced productivity, reduces costs & pollution. No deposits of Carbon lead to reduction in downtime and contamination. Excellent application in Ceramics, Heat Treatment units, Brick Klins.
- Drying Ovens: Excellent application in drying ovens due to less maintenance than oil systems because of one step heat transfer.
- Metal Industry: Usage of GAIL Propane leads to greater flame stability. No risk for overheating or blow back. Preferred over oxyacetylene due to greater flame stability and efficiency.
- Captive Power: Excellent fuel for captive power generation, like portable DG Sets though the use is not common in India.
- Refrigeration: Excellent usage as a refrigerant in AC, etc
- Process Heat Driers: Used for units of spray driers, paper driers, conveyor driers, etc.

Advantages of GAIL Propane:
- Has higher calorific Value than LPG
- Clean Fuel with no olefins, unsaturated compounds, impurities. Thus effects of corrosion are minimised
- Homogeneous mixture with no impurities leads to constant controllable bath temperatures
- Higher vapour pressure results in avoiding use of vapouriser leading to saving of energy required for vapourising LPG. 1 MT of LPG requires appx. 150 KW Electrical Energy for vapourisation
- Eco-friendly fuel leads to reduction in emission levels, soot free combustion.
- Leads to effective Thermo-static controls which further minimises fuel consumption and increases productivity.
- Low Dew point helps in avoiding condensation
