2009-10

  • GAIL signs an MoU with Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Limited (KSIDC), Government of Kerala for Natural Gas Infrastructure and City Gas Distribution in Thiruvananthpuram.

  • GAIL approves an investment of Rs. 8,000 crore for setting up of new pipelines and augmenting capacity of an existing pipeline.

  • GAIL signs a Gas Co-operation Agreement with Infrastructure Development Department (IDD) Karnataka to develop natural gas distribution and city gas infrastructure, to develop the use of eco-friendly fuels, especially Natural Gas/CNG/PNG/R-LNG and to promote a Joint Venture (JV) for domestic, industrial and transport sectors in the state of Karnataka.

  • GAIL is awarded Oil and Gas Pipeline Transportation Company for the year 2007-08 in recognition for leading performance growth of infrastructure, optimal utilization during hydrocarbon transportation in India while meeting norms of health, safety and environment protection.

  • GAIL signs agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam for Gas based power plant for supply of natural gas for 160 MW gas power plant of RRVUNL at Ramgarh.

  • GAIL signed two contracts for sourcing of natural gas from PY-1 field for supply to a power plant in Tamil Nadu to develop the natural gas distribution and city gas infrastructure, to develop the use of eco-friendly fuels, especially Natural Gas/CNG/PNG/R-LNG and to promote a Joint Venture (JV) for domestic, industrial and transport sectors in the state of Kerala.

  • GAIL gets SCOPE Meritorious Award for Corporate Governance for the year 2007-08.

2008-09

  • GAIL Gas limited wins the rights for rolling out city gas distribution projects in Meerut, Sonepat, Dewas and Kota.

  • GAIL signs gas cooperation agreements with Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and a MoU with IFFCO for setting up of Gas based Power Plant in Barauni.

  • A special commemorative postage stamp released on the occasion of GAIL's silver jubilee by Her Excellency, Smt. Pratibha Patil, President of India.

  • GAIL consortium is awarded one onland block in Cauvery during NELP-VII bidding round.

  • GAIL signs MoU with IOCL for setting up of petrochemical plant at Barauni and laid the foundation stone of the 6th gas cracker furnace at Pata plant.

  • GAIL establishes natural gas pipeline connectivity to Pune city gas, consumers of Usar region, City Gate stations at Noida, Greater Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad and East-West pipeline at Oduru (A.P), Mhaskal (Maharashtra) and Ankot (Gujarat).

  • GAIL establishes LPG pipeline connectivity to Essar Oil Refinery at Jamnagar IOCL bottling plant at Vijaipur and Gandhar and BPCL bottling plant at Jaipur.

2007-08

  • Government awards marketing rights of PMT gas to GAIL as Government of India nominee

  • The 30" diameter, 576 km long Dahej-Panvel-Dabhol pipeline with a design capacity od 12 MMSCMD commissioned.

  • Commercial production of oil from Cambay basin blocks CB-ONN-2000/1, having equal participation by GAIL and GSPC commences.

  • Expansion of Petrochemical Plant at Pata for increasing capacity from 310,000 TPA LLDPE/HDPE to 410,000 TPA completed.

  • Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BPCL), subsidiary of GAIL with partners as Government of Assam, Oil India Limited for setting up 2,80,000 MT Gas Cracker Project at Lepetkata District Dibrugarh, Assam at an investment of Rs, 5,460 Crores.

  • MoU with Reliance Industries Limited signed for joint cooperation in petrochemicals

  • GAIL forms a Joint Venture Company (JVC) with China Gas Global Energy Holdings Limited. GAIL and China Gas are equal partners in this JV which has been registered in Bermuda. This is the first Joint Venture Company of GAIL abroad. The JVC will pursue opportunities in CNG, City Gas, Pipeline, CBM, LNG and E&P projects.

  • GAIL signs MoU with ITERA Oil and Gas Company of Russia

  • GAIL and HPCL signs JV agreement for City Gas projects in Rajasthan

  • GAIL and Indian Oil ink MoU for JV in City Gas Distribution in West Bengal.

  • GAIL sets up a subsidiary (GAIL Gas Limited) for City Gas Distribution and City Corridor Business.

2005-06

  • GAIL, Oilex Australia, Videocon, HPCL and BPCL Consortium awarded Block No. 56 in Oman

  • GAIL was ranked 11th among top 15 of the world's largest listed gas utilities firms in the oil and gas industry, in terms of market capitalisation, for the year 2005.

  • GAIL gets Golden Icon award for e-governance

  • Inauguration of the National Gas Management Centre (NGMC) of GAIL at NOIDA.

  • GAIL bagged two Awards for Excellence in Cost Management from The Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India (ICWAI)

  • Incorporation of GAIL Global Singapore Pte. Ltd.

  • Acquisition of 15% equity stake in NatGas, Egypt.

  • Agreement signed for acquisition of 9% equity stake in China Gas Holdings Ltd., a Joint Venture for city gas projects in 42 cities of China.

  • Tripura Natural Gas Co. Ltd., a Joint Venture for city gas project in Tripura, incorporated.

  • UP Central Gas Ltd., a Joint Venture for city gas project with BPCL in Kanpur, incorporated.

  • De-bottlenecking of LLDPE Swing Unit from 150000 MT to 210000 MT at GAIL Pata.

  • Gas Management System commissioned for HVJ, DVPL and SGPL.

  • Commissioning of South Gujarat Pipeline Network.

  • Commissioning of Vizag-Secunderabad LPG Pipeline.

2003-04

  • GAIL has an initial success in the form of significant gas find in the block A-1 in Myanmar and discovery of Oil and Gas in the Cambay Block.

  • GAIL successfully secures participation in 2 retail gas companies in Egypt, Fayum Gas Company and Shell CNG.

  • Platts declares GAIL as the first among Global Gas Utilities based on Return on Invested Capital (ROIC) in its worldwide survey of Top 250 Energy Companies in 2004.

  • Vizag-Secunderabad LPG pipeline, the 580 km pipeline with a maximum throughput of 1.16 MMPTPA completed in June 2003.

  • Bhagyanagar Gas Limited, a joint venture of GAIL and HPCL, incorporated in August 2003, in the field of distribution and marketing of auto LPG, CNG for vehicles and retailing of natural gas in cities of Andhra Pradesh.

  • Phase I & II of 8000 km network GAILTEL projects connecting Delhi, Mumbai and 71 other cities, completed. This network provides a national communication backbone.

2001-02

  • GAIL picks up 12% equity in GSEGs 156MW power project in Gujarat as a strategic investment.

  • Marketing function is restructured and decentralized at Zonal levels.

  • GAILTEL Phase-I commissioned, creating an OFC based DWDM network connecting Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi-Jaipur, Delhi-Ahmedabad, Delhi-Vijaipur, Meerut-Agra.

2000-01

  • GAIL conceptualizes a National Gas Grid to connect the supply and demand centres in the country with high pressure cross-country pipelines networks.

  • The Gas Processing Complex, Gandhar begins production in March 2001. The process capacity of this plant is 5 MMSCMD of gas and production capacity 2.02 lacs TPA of LPG, 0.43 Lacs MT of Pentane and SBP Solvent.

  • Jamnagar-Loni LPG Pipeline Project, the worlds longest and India's first Cross-Country LPG 1269 km long pipeline, which passes through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi is completed. The capacity of the pipeline in its 1st Phase is 1.7 million TPA, to be upgraded to 2.5 million TPA in the 2nd Phase.

1999-00

  • GAIL participates in NELP bidding by submitting offer for 7 blocks in association with ONGC & IOC and Russian company Gazprom. Government of India approved award of 2 blocks to GAIL, one with ONGC in Orissa offshore and another with Gazprom in Bengal offshore.

  • LPG plant at Pata with a designed capacity of 2.58 lacs TPA of LPG commissioned for commercial production in March 2000.

1998-99

  • LPG Plants at Usar and Lakwa commissioned. The design capacity of Usar plant is 1.39 lacs TPA and that of the Lakwa plant is 0.85 lacs TPA.

  • Uttar Pradesh Petrochemical Complex (UPPC) at Pata commissioned with a design capacity of 3 lacs TPA of Ethylene to produce 2. 60 lacs TPA of HDPE & LLDPE.

  • Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) incorporated for supply of gas to household sector, transport sector & commercial consumers in Delhi.

1997-98

  • Government of India grants Navratna status to GAIL, thereby entrusting greater autonomy to GAIL after restructuring of the Board.

  • Gas processing units (GPU), offsite utilities of the petrochemical plant at Pata, commissioned.

1994-95

  • Joint venture Agreement signed with British Gas on December 6, 1994.Mahanagar Gas Limited incorporated to implement Bombay City Gas Distribution project.

1992-93

  • LPG project at Vaghodia commissioned in February 1993.

1991-92

  • Phase-II at LPG Vijaipur plant commissioned in February 1992.

1990-91

  • 2800-km Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) pipeline becomes operational in 1991.

  • LPG phase-I plant at Vijaipur commissioned in February 1991.
