Equipping for life – Programmes for Literacy Enhancement & Empowerment
Unemployables, rather than unemployment per se is one of the major problems for the youth in rural areas. Opportunities for self employment are limited owing to lack of skill training. It is this aspect which GAIL has sought to address through its skill development and training programmes. These training involve costs, guidance and overall support. Significant measures have also been taken for the creation of livelihood opportunities and facilitating forums for effective empowerment and self-reliance.
Distribution of Sewing Machines – a common, but one of the most effective empowerment programmes for women has been taken up at almost all work centers of GAIL with encouraging results.
Empowerment of differently abled and physically challenged persons has also been promoted through several means, such as providing them with necessary medical aids, equipment and infrastructural support. GAIL has consistently been supporting the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation in its programme for providing motorized vehicles to physically challenged persons, so as to empower them to be independent & self-sustaining.
