IMPACT ASSESSMENT
In 2003, GAIL's Board of Directors opinned that it was time to gauge the effectiveness of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programmes. Impact study of GAIL's Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TCP) programmes was thus carried out by an outside agency. Jamia Millia Islamia, a central university, and HITAISHI, an NGO, were duly appointed to study GAIL's CSR activities through the years 2000-2003, to assess their impact. The exercise resulted in some significant positive findings.
The HITAISHI study report revealed
- The beneficiaries of the programmes were very satisfied with GAIL and its work
- The beneficiaries of the programmes wanted GAIL to adopt their villages
- The beneficiaries of the programmes believe that when GAIL executes projects, the work is done faster and is of better quality
- The district authorities feel that GAIL is doing a professional job and that it has facilitated the national programme on population control and girl child education
- GAIL has contributed significantly towards the water programmes in the district
- There have been no delays on the part of GAIL for the construction of school buildings, sub-post offices and roads
The Jamia Millia Islamia study highlighted
- The commendable work that GAIL has been doing
- GAIL's exemplary performance
- The sincerity with which GAIL has undertaken CSR programmes
It is clear that GAIL's CSR Programmes are achieving what they set out to do - help people help themselves and get greater visibility for the company. The studies have helped us shore up weaknesses, fill in gaps, identified new areas of activity for the future, provided a baseline for future programmes and sharpened our focus on timely implementation.
