Dr. A.K Kundra
 
Dr. A.K. Kundra retired from the Indian Administrative Service as Secretary, Mines Ministry on April 30, 2003. He joined service in 1966 and was allocated the Punjab cadre. A topper and a medalist as a post-graduate in Economics from the Punjab University, Dr. Kundra did PhD from the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi while in service.

During his 36-year service in the government, he held varied assignments both at the central and state level. Postings at the central level included those of Secretary Mines, Chairman Tariff Commission and ex-officio Secretary to the Indian Government, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Special Secretary Environment and Forests Ministry, Principal Adviser Planning Commission and Development Commissioner Noida Export Processing Zone, Commerce Ministry.

In the state government Dr. Kundra was Secretary Industry, Managing Director Punjab Alkalies and Chemicals, Secretary Health and Family Welfare and Secretary Rural Development. He has 19 years professional knowledge and experience in the field of industry, corporate management, commerce, international trade and finance. As Secretary Industry Punjab, he was the Chairman of Punjab Industrial Development Corporation, Punjab Financial Corporation and a number of joint venture enterprises promoted by the PSIDC. As Secretary Mines, he remained Chairman of Hindustan Zinc Ltd after its disinvestment.

Based on his thesis, Dr. Kundra has published a book titled The Performance of India's Export Zones: A Comparison with the Chinese Approach. He has also edited a book Asia's Export Processing Zones and Science Parks in Global Markets for the Asian Productivity Organisation, Tokyo. Dr. Kundra also writes for financial dailies.
